Rebecca: Sinus Surgery

Exactly 1 month ago, I had sinus surgery
and a septoplasty.
The first few days were pretty rough.
I wasn't expecting my teeth to hurt so much,
but after about a week, I was back in my groove
for the most part.

We spent the first few days of my recovery with my Mom.
The girls had a blast and I really enjoyed the extra help.

A month later, I can say that the surgery was totally worth it.
I can breathe SO much better than I used to
and now that I'm recovered, I'm having a fewer headaches and
I can actually taste again!
Hooray!
I'm still having all kinds of weird things come out of my nose.
They had to put some splints in my sinuses to keep
things open as well as some time-release antibiotics,
so that's super weird.
And the 3 sinus rinses a day are starting to drive me nuts,
but I'm so glad I decided to have the surgery!

Thank goodness for modern medicine!

Little Updates: Trevor and Rebecca - Nov and Dec 2017

Life has been so fun and crazy for us lately!
I've been super busy working for Chatbooks and teaching violin lessons.
Piper and Hayley keep me pretty busy too! haha
But they've been getting along and playing so well lately,
it's awesome!

Trevor started a new job a few weeks ago!
I know! I swear I did just post about his woodworking job,
but now we've moved on again!
And this is such a great move!
He's working downtown SLC for a bank.
The commute is long, and the days seem really long
at home without him.
But we are all adjusting and are SO happy with the new job
and new company!

Because of his new job, Trevor has now joined the iPhone family.
It has been another transition for sure, but he's getting used to it.
haha

We both had birthdays in November!
Nothing super exciting, it has just been SO busy. haha
But the kids love celebrating and we love being together.

We are doing really well!
I'm so happy for Trevor and we feel so blessed!
This new job is such a blessing.
An answer to SO many prayers!
We are both filled with so much gratitude!

Little Update: Trevor and Rebecca

Life for us has been crazy and fun lately!
Trevor actually started a new job a few weeks ago.
He's working at a wood shop building custom doors.
There are SO pretty!
Check it out here

He's working hard on finishing up school!
Just a few more weeks left in this semester
and we are trying SO hard to finish these
last few classes before it ends!

I've been busy with a handful of things.
My girls, violin, life, and everything.
I was recently called as the Young Women Beehive Adviser
which has been SUPER fun!

And just today, I got a new job that I'm super excited about!
Its only seasonal, but I'm really hoping it can continue longer!
Its with Chatbooks, my favorite company EVER!
Seriously though. I've been getting my own chatbooks for ages!

We are having fun as usual.
We can't wait for school to be finished for Trevor,
and hopefully a higher paying job will follow!
Life sure is busy, but we are happy and finding ways to have fun!

That's about it from us!
Can't wait to show you all some of the other fun things
we are working on!

New Project

I took on my own first woodworking project!
I made this little box, and stained it myself.
I painted some jars I had around, and added some fake flowers.

I think it adds a little something extra to our kitchen!
The jars are the same colors as the chairs and it is pretty!

I'm liking learning some new things and being creative!

30 before I'm 30.

Before I turned 25, I made myself a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 25.
It didn't last as long as I intended, but it was fun!
I decided to try it again before I turn 30.
And since I'm only 28, I have more than a year to try and finish.

I haven't completed my list all the way, but I'm getting started on things...
so here are the first few.
I'm also taking any suggestions!

1. Read 30 books from the American Classics list.
2. Put a funky color in my hair, even if its not permanent.
3. Sew a quilt.
4. A violin recital or concert all on my own!
5. Go skiing or snowboarding.
6. Take Piper to Disneyland (maybe Hayley)
7. Take a photography class.
8. Run a half marathon.
9. Finally lose these extra 40 lbs.
10. Sew matching dresses for my girls.

There's my first 10!
Let me know if you have any other ideas and I might put them on my list.

Love you guys!
Wish me luck on my road to 30!

and 25 is over.

Well, 25 is gone and done.
A new age and a new year.

25 was a rough one.
We had a tough pregnancy that ended too early.
And many other stressful things.
Just life stuff. But kinda hard life stuff.
And having that lost baby sadness in my heart didn't always help with
dealing with the life stuff.
Really though, we are doing OK.
Great, actually.
Of course I am still sad that we don't have a new little baby with us
and I have some sad times.
But, I can't be the best mom to Piper and the best Rebecca
if I dwell on my sadness.
I have just chosen to be happy and keep being me.

I'm looking forward to 26.
It feels special.
I've really grown up in the last year
And I've learned so very much.
I feel like 25 made me grow up.
I feel grown up.
Well, I'm still pretty lazy and hate responsibility...
but I feel older.
I feel like 25 refined me in so many ways.
I'm ready to take on 26.

I think 26 will bring new things.
I'm really loving teaching violin and growing my studio.
And other great things are in the works.
Maybe 26 will even bring another baby.
I really hope 26 brings a baby.
I also hope 26 brings Disneyland.

Bring it on 26! Let's do this!

about me

Hey everyone! Its been a while since I did a post about me on this blog here. And since I'm getting a bunch more traffic and new visitors on this little blog of mine, I thought I'd do a little post about me.

So, here it goes.

I'm Rebecca. I was raised in Salt Lake City, and now live in Provo with my sweetheart Trevor and my silly girl, Piper.

And here are a couple of random things about me.

I lived with the same group of girls for the first 2 years in college. We don't live close to each other anymore, well, Lizzy and I do, but we are still great friends and I love them all so much!

I have played violin for almost 20 years and I love it. I studied at BYU in the School of Music for a year, but then changed my major. Now I teach violin and love it! It is so fun and I'm so glad that I kept learning and continue to grow my talents with music.

Ever wonder why  I never wear jewelery? I have a weird metal allergy. It didn't use to be bad, but ever since I had Piper, I can barely wear anything but my wedding rings, which I also never wear because I'm always playing my violin.

There was a time in my life when I couldn't go a day without a peanut m&m. Now I can barely stomach them. haha Apparently it is possible to have too much of a good thing!

If I could, I would eat Cafe Rio every day. But I'm worried that I would stop loving it like I did with the peanut m&ms... well, and it's not free. haha

I am a Mormon. I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I'm not super public with my beliefs, because they feel personal to me. However, us members are being encouraged to share our testimonies on our blogs and other forms of social media, so I might start doing that more myself.

I hate doing dishes more than anything in the whole wide world. haha

I love crafting and sewing, but I'm really not very good at it. But I try really, really hard. :)

Well, that's about it! If you want to know more about me, just keep following this here blog!

You can also check out my instagram @brebeccalewis  I mostly post pictures and videos of Piper. Let's face it, she's hilarious!

 Thanks for reading! XOXO

Thanks for the love!

I've had a handful of people ask me how I'm doing lately. As in, how I'm doing since the loss of our little boy. (If you want to read about that, click here.)

And, honestly, I'm doing great. I still very occasionally have sad times. And I am a little more blue as we are approaching what would've been our due date. But, I'm fine.

So, thanks to all of you for your thoughts and love! It means a great deal to know that people are thinking about me and my little family.

We love you all and can't wait for the day that we will be able to add another little one to our family!

Now

I found this on Pinterest the other night,
and it really stood out to me.
Just a good reminder to stop putting everything off until tomorrow.
And all that jazz.

Its kinda my new motto.
I want to be the best Rebecca I can be and I'm starting NOW.

That's all!

25

Today is my 25th birthday!
The last year has been quite a ride.
In case you didn't notice, I basically gave up on my list of 25 things to do before I turned 25.
I did get a few of them finished, but having a little one-year-old was much busier than I expected.
haha

But it has been a fun year!

And here's picture of baby me:

We are planning on a relaxing day at home (I need it)
and some yummy Cafe Rio for dinner!

changes

In addition to moving, we have had some other changes happening around these parts.
The most notable is me going back to work.
I'm not working too often, just 2 nights a week,
but it is really nice to get out of the house and talk to some grown-ups.

Monday night was my first shift back, and it was GREAT to go back.
In addition to being back at Color Me Mine, I also have another new violin student
starting this week!
Its great, but busy and I love it!

So, come paint sometime!
I'm usually there on Monday nights and Saturdays!
Its fun! So fun that I can't seem to stop working there after all these many years! haha

Disneyland 2013

I just got home from a super fun trip to Disneyland!
It was so nice to have a few days off from the baby and play with my sister and cousins.
We all came home with sore feet, legs, and backs, but we loved every minute of it!

Just a few pics from the couple days there.

I had so much fun with these girls and can't wait to go again!

A special thanks to Madeleine's friend that got married, so we had a reason to go to California :)

(Sorry if the photos look a little grainy. I didn't take a camera.
Just phone photos)

Hope everyone has a happy Monday!

on motherhood

Now that I have been a mother to Piper for a year (almost)
I feel like I can officially write a post on my motherhood experience so far.

First, this was mostly prompted by this post by one of my favorite bloggers, Lauren.
She touched on one of the things that I have struggled with the most over the last year;
feeling important.
Obviously I know that Piper needs me and I feel important to my little family,
sometimes I found myself doubting my importance in the world as a whole.
Its not a daily struggle, but is something I found myself praying about on a regular basis.
I really liked what Lauren said in her post.
I think she said it perfect!

This year has been amazing!
It has also been one of the most difficult years.
As noted in my earlier post, nursing was difficult for Piper and I
and, honestly, the first few months of her life were extremely difficult.
Since she has grown up and learned new things,
my days are much more fun!
I have loved being her mom and I will continue to enjoy it,
but I must confess, it is drastically different than I thought it would be.
(Remember how I was going to do jetBlue and the same time?!?! Good thing I gave up on that! haha)

I have been blessed with a great baby girl.
She is so sweet and so playful at the same time.
Piper kinda likes to beat up her Dad a little :) Poor guy!
We have a lot of fun everyday and make friends everywhere!
Our trips to the store are about 20 minutes longer than they need to be because Piper waves at
EVERYONE so we get stopped a lot to chat with strangers!
I love having such a happy, kind, friendly baby.

It has been one crazy year but I wouldn't ask to change anything!
She's the best tiny best friend!

 photo from earlier today

Love you all! Thanks for all your support, help, and love over the last year of Piper's life!

snapshots from the last week!

We have had such a fun couple of weeks.
These are a few photos from a couple days ago.

Trevor's job had a super fun company party on Saturday.
We basically had Thanksgiving Point all to ourselves for a few hours.
We enjoyed the farm animals and the Dino museum as well as a walk around the GORGEOUS gardens.

 little lamb bums

Piper loved seeing all the animals!

 This horse was SO friendly!
Piper pet her too!

 Making friends :)
Piper is fearless! She will go up to anyone and party!

 Family photo!
All wearing our shirts.

We had such a great time!
Piper came home and passed out!
I think we will need to go back and explore more.

We really love Xactware, the company that Trevor works for.
They have been so good to us for the last while, and they throw some awesome parties!
